Are you thinking of building a product, or are you in the early stage of development? Here are 7 product discovery and development guidelines that might interest you -

  1. Your relationship with your customers will first be one-sided. You’ll think about them all the time, but they’ll only reach out to you when they need you. Don’t worry, If you woo them long enough, they’ll begin to think of you more. 😅
  2. Product development does not make your product idea suck less. If you don’t have customers before you complete product development, chances are, you wouldn’t have any (or a good number) afterward.
  3. What customers say they want is not always really what they want. At a point, you’ll need to know them well enough and then tell them what they want. You know, like your mum does. 👸🏾
  4. You are going to want to save the world with your product idea. A good way to begin is to start by saving your city. Aim for a slice, while keeping an eye on the whole pizza. 🍕
  5. More features do not necessarily mean more (loyal) users, any more than more ingredients mean a more delicious soup. 😭
  6. If your key value proposition to customers is X, let that stand out once they launch your product. “No man when he hath lighted a lamp covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed” — Luke 8:16 😁
  7. Product value is more important than your pricing model. However, your pricing model could increase or decrease your product value. Go figure!
